THE Allen Temple STORY
WE STAND FOR LIVES CHANGED BY CHRIST
Our Church started with 13 members who in 1875 formed an AME Mission in an old blacksmith's shop. The small Mission would become Allen Chapel, which would later become Allen Temple.
Allen Temple has a rich and interesting history, which can be traced back to the Reconstruction era. The life of this church has always provided an inspiring testament to God’s grace and sovereignty.
In 1927, the church built a new facility which allowed the church to expand the ministries as well as the community outreach. The church offered a nursery and kindergarten.
Currently located in the historic West End District of Greenville, S.C., the church is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and continues to thrive today under the diligent leadership of Reverend William C. Miller.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that church isn't just about a building with a cross. It's about people's relationship with God and each other.
Our Mission
The Mission of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is to minister to the social, spiritual, and physical development of ALL people.
Affirmation of Faith
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead; and buried. The third day he arose from the dead, he ascended into heaven and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church Universal, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.
